Welcome Note from CAAA President

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends:

It is my honor to serve as your president and welcome you as a member to the Cornell Asian Alumni Association (CAAA), the only association for Asian and Asian American alumni.  As a Cornell graduate, you are automatically part of a community of over 13,000 Asians and Asian Americans, all of whom can grow and benefit through CAAA.  And as a growing voice we hope to shape the future together.

CAAA is a great forum to explore a role with Cornell after graduation and connect with students and other alumni.  The people that make up CAAA have a wide array of life and professional experiences.  Many were not active in campus groups before.  Many never thought about, disliked, or felt odd about being identified as “Asian” or “Asian-American.”  And many felt overwhelmed by active work schedules.  However, no matter what your background, you can find a part to play in CAAA alongside other alumni who are energetic and passionate about each other and their communities.

In addition, CAAA believes that it is part of a global community and it strives to serve the interests of all Asians, including East Asians, Southeast Asians, and South Asians.  It boasts an inclusive mantra, emphasizing interaction with other Cornell affinity groups, such as the Cornell Black Alumni Association and Cornell Latino Alumni Association, just to name a few.

I welcome you to our monthly board meetings in Manhattan and to the many events planned throughout the year.  I would be thrilled to have your support in organizing these events– big and small.

Feel free to contact me any time monica.gelinas@gmail.com and we welcome your involvement.

Warmest regards for a fruitful year,

Monica Gelinas ’99
President, Cornell Asian Alumni Association
